President’s Welcome Letter

Dear Brothers,
I am honored to stand before you today as The Amity Club of New Haven’s 86th
President. The focus of my presidency will be “back to tradition”.
Tradition is defined as a belief or behavior passed down within a group or society
with symbolic meaning or special significance with origins in the past. One of my
goals is to bring back the tradition that the presidents before me did through their
tenures.
I am bringing back club social events with Amity on the Go, which included a trip
to The Ridgefield Playhouse, a future trip to Yankee Stadium, and a club event to
the Yale/Harvard game.
I am pleased we were able to continue the tradition of the annual Amity Club of
New Haven’s family picnic again this year. It was an overwhelming success with
over 120 members and guests in attendance.
I plan on bringing back the quarterly newsletter and continuing fundraising events
such as The Amity Club Golf tournament and the wine tasting that will support the
Amity Charitable Trust Fund. The food drive and clothing drive to help our
veterans as they enter the workforce will also continue. I also plan to hold new
events that will support the club directly such as a cigar night.
It is my intent to utilize our membership in the New Haven Chamber of Commerce
to increase community awareness regarding The Amity Club of New Haven.
Utilizing social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook will also increase
the visibility for the club with the goal being to gain the support of businesses in
the New Haven community.
It is important to involve our spouses and significant others in the club, therefore, I
am bringing back another past tradition of the club, the Valentine’s Day Dinner in
February.
According to our Mission Statement, “The Amity Club of New Haven directs its
philanthropic energies in the form of scholarship support to academically qualified
young people from the greater New Haven area and to organizations and activities
designed for the community and individual betterment”.

To continue the club’s mission my President’s Project will be working with
Habitat for Humanity for Veterans. This project evolved after a guest speaker of
ours, Roger Lockshier, a Vietnam Veteran, spoke to our membership about his
experience in the armed forces to maintain the liberty that we and our families
continue to enjoy.
In summary, tradition is the basis of our existence and is equally important for our
growth today, tomorrow, and forever. The support of our members is necessary to
carry on the traditions of The Amity Club of New Haven.
